i&#039;ve never seen any response from google on this, but my guess is one of 2 things:

A) they do it to save bandwidth. imagine those 14 characters (closing the body &amp; html tags) multiplied by X-million every hour.
B) they are closing it, but the closer is pulled in through ajax.

what do you think?
